Blaxploitation Era in Hollywood – A Film Series

Blaxploitation!February is Black History Month! In Other Words is celebrating by hosting a series of 3 classic 60s and 70s era Blaxploitation films on Monday nights.

$5 donation suggested, no one will be turned away for lack of funds.

Monday, 02/06 – 7-10PM

Penitentiary (1979)

“A hitchhiker named Martel Gordone gets in a fight with two bikers over a prostitute, and one of the bikers is killed. Gordone is arrested and sent to prison, where he joins the prison’s boxing team in an effort to secure an early parole and to establish his dominance over the prison’s toughest gang.”

Monday, 02/13 – 7-10PM

The House on Skull Mountain (1974)

“Murders occur at the southern estate of a voodoo priestess when four relatives gather to hear her will.”

Monday, 02/20 – 7-10PM

Mandingo (1975)

“A slave owner in the 1840s trains one of his slaves to be a bare-knuckle fighter.”

The showings will be followed with a discussion and Q & A with Albert Shepard, one of the first Black members of the Directors Guild of America. These events promise to be interesting, informative, and a lot of fun. We hope to see you!
