National Volunteer Week

April 15, 2012

April 15th 2012 – April 21st 2012 is National Volunteer Week! Volunteer Week is a time to take a moment to recognize and appreciate the hard and important work of our dedicated volunteers. Visit our blog throughout this week to read a series of stories that we hope acknowledges and celebrates the amazing volunteer community here at In Other Words.

I continue to be humbled and inspired by the dedication of our Portland Metro Area community members who volunteer their time and energy at In Other Words. I have never met a more innovative and resilient group of hard workers with such an array of skillsets. Even at the volunteer appreciation brunch/craft party last weekend, the community organizing and discussion and sharing was a vibrant part of the day.

The Volunteer Leadership Development Program at In Other Words is a peer-to-peer mentorship model that encourages volunteers to take on leadership roles within the organization and to share their expertise with each other. From our lending library to our craft consignment program to our storefront window displays and our monthly featured artists, literally every major aspect of In Other Words is envisioned, implemented, and operated by volunteers.

— Kim Meinert, serving on Board of Directors
