A Dramatically Different Direction with Lesbian Author Margaret Mann
Join us on July 14th from 5-7PM for an exciting evening with author Margaret Mann for a reading and signing of her recent book, “A Dramatically Different Direction”
A DRAMATICALLY DIFFERENT DIRECTION is a poignant, funny, and heart rending autobiographical commentary by an old, bi-racial, lesbian, Buddhist in a wheelchair. Disabled in 1997 by a small blood vessel bursting in her spinal cord, author Margaret Mann has rebuilt her life with an amazing good humor and a dash of sarcastic wit. The message in her essays is universal: you will suffer in life to the same degree that you sit around wishing things were different.
Margaret Mann, 66, has spent her life as a community organizer. She currently makes her living as a writer and counselor in Honolulu, Hawaii. In recent years, she served as the Chair of the Board of Directors of the local LGBT community center and the program director of the Lesbian Breast Cancer Project. Prior to returning home to Hawaii in 2003, she worked in Washington DC for twenty years for various national agencies dealing with women’s issues (National Women’s Health Network, League of Women Voters, Older Women’s League, and National Osteoporosis Foundation) or disability issues (Disability Rights Council and Endependence Center of Northern Virginia).
She holds a Education Specialist (ED.S) in Rehabilitation Counseling from George Washington University, a Masters in Social Work from the University of Michigan, and a Bachelor of Arts from San Diego State College.
Donations gladly accepted at the door, with proceeds directly supporting In Other Words.
