Voices Behind the Razorwire – April 13

April 5, 2013

April is National Child Abuse Awareness Month. To commemorate this occasion, author Davonna Livingston will come to In Other Words on April 13th at 5 pm to discuss her new book, Voices Behind the Razorwire. The book contains interviews she conducted with eight women regarding abuse in prisons throughout the country.

Voices Behind the RazorwireMs. Livingston will share her own personal experience with childhood abuse while growing up in rural Georgia, and explain how she and her mother fled their abusive home under the cover of darkness with the help of a forward-thinking young priest who helped them escape to a better life.

In addition, Ms. Livingston will lead a discussion on the importance of having open discussions about abuse and will introduce the nonprofit she founded to help victims reclaim their voices, called Changing Perceptions.

This event is free to the public, but donations will be accepted and used to further abuse prevention and awareness.
