National Volunteer Week – Anonymous

April 24, 2013

National Volunteer Week 2013 is April 21st through the 27th. We’re recognizing the hard work our volunteers do every day to keep In Other Words a thriving hub of Portland feminism. Our mission is to inspire and cultivate feminist communities, nurturing social justice, and we simply wouldn’t be able to do it without the dedication of so many vibrant, hard-working people.

“I love volunteering with In Other Words because it gives me an opportunity to educate myself more about feminism and stay current in events and activist gatherings.  I also get some sweet email and snail mail updates due to my connection with IOW.  The space is important to keep the Feminist Archives available to the public, and as a safe-feeling feminist space for people to meet, hold discussions, participate in groups, host group meetings and gatherings.  I love volunteering at In Other Words because feminist authors, musicians, and poets can perform and celebrate their art proudly and without worry.  It is an extremely safe feeling space to me.  It is also important to have a library available to those who do not have a current ID.  I love In Other Words.”
