National Volunteer Week – Kim

April 25, 2013

National Volunteer Week 2013 is April 21st through the 27th. We’re recognizing the hard work our volunteers do every day to keep In Other Words a thriving hub of Portland feminism. Our mission is to inspire and cultivate feminist communities, nurturing social justice, and we simply wouldn’t be able to do it without the dedication of so many vibrant, hard-working people.

“In Other Words Feminist Community Center is dear to my heart for countless reasons.  The volunteers so an incredible job of creating an inviting and unassuming space that always gives me the warm fuzzies whenever I walk through the door.  I continue to be impressed at the initiative and drive that the volunteers display in everything from organizing the craft consignment, to putting together events programming, to developing partnerships with community organizations such as Seniors Make Sense, Pride Northwest, Happy Hysteria Health Collective, the Clinton Street Theater, and many more (oh, and of course the IFC Portlandia).  I have really strengthened my leadership and communication skills during my time at In Other Words and am so thankful that I found In Other Words when I was looking for ways to engage in–and contribute to–my local communities.  In Other Words feels like a home away from home.”
