Feminist Events in the Portland Area

September 23, 2013

Here’s some exciting news for Portland feminists this week: Dr. Anne Fausto-Sterling is speaking at Reed College and Cermion House is performing selected works of the late Tillie Olsen!

Anne Fausto-Sterling

  • Dr. Anne Fausto-Sterling, Department of Molecular and Cell Biology, Brown University.

Dr. Fausto-Sterling is a leading gender and biology expert, will be speaking at Reed College in Vollum Lecture Hall (map) at 6:30 pm on Thursday, September 26th. Her lecture will address gender theory, and is open to the public. For more information about Dr. Fausto-Sterling, please visit her website: http://www.annefaustosterling.com/

Tillie Olsen

  • Tillie Olsen (1912 – 2007)

Tillie Olsen: A Retrospective is a benefit reading of portions of the works of award-winning feminist author Tillie Olsen, featuring a cast of veteran actors from the Oregon Shakespeare Festival.  The event will take place at Cerimon House (map) on Sunday, September 29th, at 7 pm. A donation of $20 at the door is suggested, though admission is sliding scale. For more information about the works and life of Tillie Olsen, please visit her website: http://www.tillieolsen.net

UPDATE: This event is no longer taking place on Saturday. There will be one performance on the 29th, and it is recommended you reserve your space by emailing reservations@cerimonhouse.org.

Please note that neither of these events is affiliated with In Other Words, but we are happy to raise awareness of feminist events in the Portland area. If you have an event you would like mentioned on our blog, please contact communications@inotherwords.org.

Hello, Cerimon House here again. We are so excited for this event and realize that we should let you know that our venue (in the heart of the Alberta Arts District, at the cross roads of NE 23rd Avenue and NE Sumner Street. 1 block north of Alberta) seats 75 people. With only one night for this special event (Sunday, September 29th @ 7:00pm), it is certain we shall fill up. Save your place today by writing to reservations@cerimonhouse.org and we will respond with a confirmation e-mail. Once again, apologies for the need to cancel Saturday’s performance.
