  • Facebook event link

This workshop was planned by white and Native American facilitators at the request of and in collaboration with local Black activists. The curriculum has been designed to recognize the many layers of white privilege and is intended to challenge white people to continually strive for better knowledge and awareness in regards to racial justice and following the leadership of People of Color.

There is a place for white allies with a genuine and selfless desire to support People of Color in the fight for their dignity and lives. With that comes the ever-growing process of personally identifying and refining what it means to be a white ally in the new Civil Rights movement. This workshop is an intentional space to discuss aspects of that process, including recognizing white privilege. The workshop is intended to help white people develop their capacity to apply a racial justice lens to their activism and everyday lives. It will cover a basic definition of white supremacy, encourage reflection on historical and current social justice movements with an eye to developing awareness of the way race plays out in activist settings, and provide a starting point to think about how white allies can do better in the future.   People of Color are welcome to attend and provide feedback. Please come with a notebook & pen/pencil and be ready to add to the conversation. Whether new to the movement or an aged activist, your presence and input are valuable! $5 suggested donation (for space and materials) 50 people max, so please arrive early if possible Snacks provided Can’t make it on February 15th?  There is a second event scheduled! February 18th at 6PM, and possibly a third.  Please join the facebook event to learn more information about getting involved in this process. – – – Interested in organizing a feminist event at In Other Words?
